Accidentally Deleted Files?

Sometimes valuable files or folders can be lost by accidentally deleting them.  If they are too large for the trash bin, or if it has been emptied, you may not know how to find those files. But don’t worry, deleted files are not lost! At least not initially. If you need to recover deleted files, there are a few things you should know.

  1. Stop using the device! Deleted files are only lost if they are overwritten. If you save other files, download programs from the internet, or do anything that writes data to the hard drive, you risk overwriting you valuable files.
  2. Deleted files can frequently be recovered using software that is available online. There are some free packages out there that may suffice for your situation, but are not able to specifically recommend any program.
  3. Do not download deleted file recovery software to the computer with lost data. If you decide to recover your deleted files on your own, you will need to remove the hard drive and scan it by attaching it to another computer with an adapter, or directly to the motherboard. You can download your software to this second computer and recover the files to it.

If you are not comfortable with this process you should call a data recovery company that offers a no data, no service fee guarantee.
